Hudson Yankee Blue: In Memoriam

Hudson Yankee Blue – 2003-2012

Farewell, But Never Goodbye

The last jagged fragments
trickle over stuttering lips.
I have nothing left to cry.

So bravely you fought,
through a world filled with pain.
Accepting peace with more grace than ever.

A warm pool of shards.
So many fond memories.
I smile at their brilliant reflection,
and bleed as they cut ever deeper.

Your road has not ended.
Such roads never do.
They simply transform into new.

Now free of the structure
and harshness of life,
finally free to walk your own path.

I will carry you forward
in this new life I find,
and bury my anger beneath gratitude.

I know you were ready.
Well, I never was.
I hope I made you proud,
as you have always made me.

Today, I awaken to a somber grey sky.
A mourning world relays my emotion.
But later on, in a day or two,
The sky will clear again.

The sun will shine through
and deliver your warmth.
This time not from beside,
but high above.

I will see you then,
and I will know
that we truly never part at all.

Sleep well, brave girl…

    • Thank you. She was so brave that she left me no choice but to be brave as well. I know it all happened as it was meant to and I had her at home on her bed when it happened so she was as comfortable as can be.

Cooper is confused and anxious but he’s a little trooper. I’m sure he’ll be his usual camera hog diva for many, many years.

    • Thank you so much. It really is an amazingly emotional time but also a time to reflect on all the memories. A bittersweet moment, to be sure.

I’m so sorry to hear about your little dachshund 😦

  1. So sorry for your loss. It is one of the sorrows of my life that I know we almost always outlive our best friends who love us unconditionally and without reservation.

    • Thank you so much. You’re a sweetheart. It’s so true and we never really let ourselves accept that we will outlive them but certain companions really leave a mark and that day is never an easy one to accept. Still, when it comes peacefully and you just know the time is right, it is so much easier to accept it and be grateful for the significant time you had.

    • Thanks so much and I’m so sorry to hear about your greyhound. Such gorgeous creatures!! It can really be hard and we never really see it coming. Was he a rescue? You always struck me as the hound dog type 🙂

I’ve always had Aussies – they are the most amazing dogs. I’m sure my next kiddo will have bicolor eyes, too. There’s just something so quirky about the look.
